Yet I Will Praise

Just got an e-mail from our team leader today. He said the rains this year in "Narnia" have been infrequent and small. In a place like England, this could be interpreted as a good thing - meaning lots of sunny weather without a washout !:-) But for people who live in the desert, whose entire livelihood is based on their crops and animals, this is bad news. The rains this year were apparently comparable to 2003, but in 2003 there was a store of grain from previous years.

The price of grain has doubled already in the last few months on our country.

We are potentially facing a very difficult season coming up for local people. Such a strange thing to get a grip on when I just snacked on a Mince pie. I still don't know how to reconcile two totally different worlds.

I find Habakkuk's words appropriately encouraging...

Habakkuk 3:17-20 (NIV)

Though the fig tree does not bud
   and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
   and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
   and no cattle in the stalls,
 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
   I will be joyful in God my Savior.
  The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
   he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
   he enables me to tread on the heights.
