Hodge Podge

Today there are as many things flying through my head as there are atoms in my body (well, almost!). It's a bit of this, bit of that kind-of-a-day.

For a brief moment in time, I slipped away into the bedroom and almost forgot I was in Africa...until, suddenly I glanced out the window and saw a turban-covered dark man riding down the street like a prince on a galloping camel. His saddle looked like red velvet. He looked like he was straight out of Arabian Nights or something. Reality check! I am not in America!

Today's highlight was getting to talk with Poppa, my Dad's dad, who's recently been through some big health challenges. Besides our talk of mutual affection and care, we spent most of our conversation talking about Blueberry Pancakes. His favorite. With bacon. Or Ham. He seemed quite happy to be reminded that Blueberry Pancakes still exist in the world, and was sure that the next time I come visit, he would make me some. Yum! :-) Proverbs 25:25 says, "Like water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far away land." My soul felt watered today. Thanks, Poppa!

In the midst of my hodge-podge day, here’s a little glimpse into my thought-life:

“How do I treat arsenic poisoning?”

What’s the best malaria treatment while breastfeeding?”

“How do we keep goats out of our garden?”

“I love making bread.”

“Jealous wife poisoning husband? C’mon, people.”

“What’s the cost of a flight to Casablanca?”

“Have I lost weight?”

“My little guy is making the “shh” sound today. So sweet.”

“The Wolof were here before the Moors? Not surprising, somehow.”

“The Isaac and Rebekah story is full of so much prayer! No wonder why it worked!”

“Do I have all the ingredients for Stromboli (except the cheese, of course!)?”

"Aww....my Mom called!".

“Even though Lili is traipsing my dress through the dirt, it looks cute on her and she feels like a princess! Let her wear it, Michelle”.

"I wonder what we'll be doing in 10 years."
“I wonder how many visitors will come this evening? Do I have enough milk powder?”

“How do you teach kids to speak kindly to each other?”

“My husband has a rainbow band-aid on. I guess he couldn’t find the adult ones. Laugh.”

“Fun, fun, fun…all over our faces”.

"I wonder how often doctor's detect abdominal tuberculosis here".

“What I would give for one day in western clothes right now.”

"I've got great in-laws!"

“I love the color of beets. The colors of beet leaves are even better!”

“Thiamin deficiency is easily curable. Fantastic.”
